Squamish Canyon

Squamish Canyon is a visitor and community activity and experience, consisting of an educational rainforest boardwalk, a waterfall canyon walkway and a unique artisan forest lounge that is also a forest preservation, all designed, created and built by locals. We are creating a safe, low-impact experience for our visitors and environment, which aims to educate and connect them not only with nature but with our local organizations that make our community so great. A forest lounge will offer an artisan area for our local artists, an all-weather gathering and educational space, an all-weather children’s play area and some local food and beverages, all connected by raised exciting walkways winding through the forest, along the canyon walls and over waterfalls

Project Details

The projects area has been carefully surveyed to make sure our structures can be built to preserve almost every tree on site and rehabilitate areas affected by past industrial use. The project has gone through 7 years of provincial, municipal, and first nations approval. We have worked closely with the lands department, our local loggers and First Nations to divert the harvestable areas of this land from being logged, and turned an area zoned as residential, now zoned for the Squamish Canyon educational eco-tour and forest preserve. We want to show how tourism, recreation, community space, a healthy ecosystem and industry can all coexist together and how heavily used land can be reclaimed and turned into something that could be preserved forever.

I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.
